One of Highland Capital’s Newest Endeavors

Found in 1993, Highland Capital Management L.P. is an investment advisory firm that is SEC-registered, and with affiliates possess assets worth around $15.4 billion. This investment firm cofounders are James Dondero and Mark Okada, and they are headquartered in Dallas, Texas. They also have offices in New York, Singapore, Sao Paolo, and Seoul. This firm specializes in credit strategies, including long only funding, separate accounts, credit hedge funds, collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), and private equity of special situation. Alternative investments, including natural resources, long and short equities, and emerging markets are also offered with them. And furthermore, Highland Capital has diversified clients, including endowments, foundations, public pension plans, governments, fund of funds, financial institutions, corporations, and high net-worth individuals.


Highland Capital has recently launched a $147 million healthcare funding that is backed by South Korea’s National Pension Service (NPS). The NPS is the anchor investor of the fund. Participating investors of this fund who are with Highland Capital and NPS Korea have specific goals for healthcare as well as investment returns. This includes access to co-investments’ opportunities for the purpose of serving their strategic goals in the US, Korea, and China. Highland Capital will work in Asia with Stonebridge Capital, a venture capital and private equity firm of Korea. who also are managing the fund.


This is Highland Capital’s first private equity endeavor for healthcare objectives in Asia. And as a result so far, most investments made were via multi-purpose funds or on a direct basis while at the same time Asian investors have displayed more interest within the sector.
